Reactive oxygen species in cardiovascular diseases: an update

نویسندگان

چکیده

Cardiovascular diseases are among the leading causes of death worldwide, imposing major health threats. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) one most important products from process redox reactions. In onset and progression cardiovascular diseases, ROS believed to heavily influence homeostasis lipids, proteins, DNA, mitochondria, energy metabolism. As production increases, heart is damaged, further ROS. The vicious cycle continues on as additional generated. For example, recent evidence indicated that connexin 43 (Cx43) deficiency pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) activation led a loss protection in cardiomyocytes. this context, better understanding mechanisms behind vital determining effective treatment management strategies for diseases.

Redox Roles of Reactive Oxygen Species in Cardiovascular Diseases

Cardiovascular disease (CVD), a major cause of mortality in the world, has been extensively studied over the past decade. However, the exact mechanism underlying its pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a pivotal role in the progression of CVD. Particularly, ROS are commonly engaged in developing typical characteristics of atherosclerosis, one of the do...

NSAIDs and Cardiovascular Diseases: Role of Reactive Oxygen Species

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are the most commonly used drugs worldwide. NSAIDs are used for a variety of conditions including pain, rheumatoid arthritis, and musculoskeletal disorders. The beneficial effects of NSAIDs in reducing or relieving pain are well established, and other benefits such as reducing inflammation and anticancer effects are also documented. The undesirable ...

Update on Reactive Oxygen Species in Plant Pathology Reactive Oxygen Species Signaling in Response to Pathogens

The production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), via consumption of oxygen in a so-called oxidative burst, is one of the earliest cellular responses following successful pathogen recognition. Apoplastic generation of superoxide (O2 ), or its dismutation product hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), has been documented following recognition of a variety of pathogens (Doke, 1983; Auh and Murphy, 1995; Grant ...

Update on Reactive Oxygen Species in Plant Cell Death Reactive Oxygen Species in Plant Cell Death

Paradoxically, death is an integral part of life. Cell death is essential for growth and development of eukaryotes, by maintaining tissue and organ homeostasis in concert with cell proliferation, growth, and differentiation. Until recently, the wide variety of cell death types reported in the literature was mostly caged in two semantic categories: apoptosis and necrosis. Discrimination between ...

Reactive oxygen species in cardiovascular disease.

Based on the "free radical theory" of disease, researchers have been trying to elucidate the role of oxidative stress from free radicals in cardiovascular disease. Considerable data indicate that reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress are important features of cardiovascular diseases including atherosclerosis, hypertension, and congestive heart failure. However, blanket strategies with an...
